What is The Franklin School of Innovation?

The Franklin School of Innovation is a tuition-free public charter school currently serving students from Asheville and Buncombe County North Carolina in grades 6-11. We will expand next year to grades 5-12.

Our Mission

The Franklin School of Innovation is preparing the next generation of leaders, capable of solving problems and participating effectively and ethically as local and global citizens. Through challenging academics, real-world learning, and community engagement, our students discover their potential, develop persistence, and recognize the value of others.

What is the Filthy Franklin?

The FSI Filthy Franklin Mud Run is a student-led event organized to build community, have fun and raise much needed funds for our tuition-free public charter school! Student crews are busy planning the course and with the support of staff and parents will build and manage the course. All proceeds will fund FSI’s educational program which supports excellence in academics, culture, and service. Read more from our students below*.

*The Franklin School of Innovation’s goal is to give students what they need to succeed in life past school. We focus on six Habits of Scholarship and the Growth Mindset. The six Habits of Scholarship are Ethics, Collaboration, Persistence, Inquiry, Leadership, and Action. The Growth Mindset is when you think you can do it, when you think you can do better.  Here, we learn through exploration and experience, we have a unique perspective on learning. We are one of the few Expeditionary learning schools, and we have a collaborative group called crew. Crew is a group of students that come from different classes and join together daily to get to know each other in a safe environment and help each other to learn.
